Merry Christmas!!! Well, in 15 minutes it won't be anymore but it was fun while it lasted. We had a really good Christmas with both families.
For a little while I said I would announce something, the reason I've been sleep deprived but excited at the same time. I'm not pregnant, though. I want kids but I think we still have a couple of years before we'll be ready for it. We got a puppy! It's the next step, eh?
His name is Loki and he is an 8-week-old Pomeranian. He is a Blue Merle Pomeranian which is why his coat is an uncommon color. Isn't he a cutie? We looooove him. He's a little fluffball of energy and we've had him for just over a week now.
Loki is who's been keeping my husband and I up half the night. We are trying very hard to train him from the get-go and show him that we are the alpha dogs, so he isn't allowed to sleep in the same room as us. He has separation anxiety and cries a lot at night, but we've got it down to the point where he will be silent for about 5 hours. Hoping to increase that to 8...
We took Loki with us to two different towns and he was a really good about the car ride and all the new people he met. His breeder socializes her puppies really well so they are used to other animals and multiple people. All he wanted to do all day was lick faces.
I hope everyone's Christmas was full of good times!
It's been snowing lately. It snowed over the weekend so for a couple days school was 2 hours late, then yesterday school was closed preempively because it was 90% chance of snow plus we've been experiencing arctic freezing with ice all week. Then yesterday it didn't snow at all! Then this morning it started snowing like crazy and they decided to have school 1 hour late, but the conditions on the roads are impossibly ridiculous. All the staff members are wondering why we have school today, and I think it's because the superintendant is embarrassed about us not getting any snow yesterday so he's making us pay for his mistake, like he's afraid he's going to jump the gun. Anyway, it doesn't usually snow a whole lot in Western Washington so when it does our roads really get it bad because we're not always the most prepared, plus nobody in this neck of the woods knows how to drive in the snow so we all get screwed.
So I'm at work right now with absolutely 0 students in my classroom, feeling disgusting and sleep deprived (I'll talk about why in another post later), knowing that when I go home with my carpool friend we'll be stuck in bad traffic on 405 North for a couple of hours just to get 17 miles home.
The most amazing thing happened... I took my first "personal day" off of work! So I'm not extremely busy for once. I got to sleep in, wake up and watch TV in bed. I'm still doing that right now. The View is on and I have my work laptop in bed. DH says I should take a hot bath today. I'll have to think about it. I like to read books in the bath but I only use my Kindle for reading and I'm worried about getting condensation on it. That's the only downside. On the upside, I found all these really cool stickers to cover the Kindle and make it look less "blah" because it's all white and boring looking.
Thanksgiving was good. We had Thursday and Friday off for a 4 day weekend. DH and I switch Thanksgiving each year, so this year we went to his family's. It went by very quickly but it was nice to see everyone. There are two little kids in the family now, our nephew and new niece. So now the whole family is fixated on the little ones. Up until a couple years ago DH was the youngest one in his family.
I did go see Twilight! I gotta say, I was impressed. I had read all about how fans were disappointed with the casting. Before I saw the movie I only had a problem with the guy who played Edward but only because I hated the way they styled his hair. I quickly got over it when I saw the movie. I felt that they really stayed true to the book. It's sad that the director of Twilight won't be back for New Moon.
*potential TMI - If you are sqeamish you might not want to read ahead* We recently had a scare with one of our 3-toed box turtles the other day. We thought he was dying. Under his shell where his tail is it looked like his insides were coming out his rear end. We were sure his life was over but we still called the emergency vet. The first question the doctor asked was, "Is it a male?" Is was. Turns out the reproductive organ of a male turtle is quite unique-looking and doesn't usually come out to say hello. We soaked him in the bathtub for an hour and he was fine. Now we know a lot more about the male turtle anatomy than we ever wanted to know. lol
Hi!!!!!! It's been a couple weeks and I'm doing well! I'd post more regularly but my brain has been burning out at work. It's that time of year for teachers and students... The great big meltdown where everyone just needs a break. Yay for Thanksgiving! When I come home from work I just melt into the couch in my comfy Charter Club snuggle wrap and stare at the TV screen. BTW go to Macy's and this sucker's on sale for like half-price. It was this weekend, at least.
Yay!!!!! I'm back on the front page, that is so cool!!! Thank you, EP!
I feel pretty good this week. I lose almost another pound despite several parties over the weekend. Let me tell you, the social events lately have been happening ALL THE TIME. Halloween, more Halloween, birthday parties, baby showers... Another family event on Veteran's day, then Thanksgiving. Hell, there's even a party tonight and it's the middle of the week. It's amazing that I'm making it through all this!
Sorry to anyone this may offend for any reason (or if you voted the other way), but yay for Obama, too! I'm so excited about this milestone our country has hit. I posted the front page of the newspaper on the bulletin board in my classroom today.
I'm on my 3rd novel since last Monday when I got the Kindle. My husband is worried that I'll be spending more money than usual on books. hehe At least they're cheaper this way.
Today was like Christmas for me. I ordered my Kindle last week and it came today! Got it way early. Remember that condition that I had to win that weight loss contest with DH by Christmas? Well, we're still doing that. But over the weekend DH was looking at cheap laptops and asked my permission to get one. I asked if I could get my Kindle if he wants his laptop, since I've been dying to have one since the moment they came out. In the end I got my Kindle and he decided to not get the laptop.
Coolest thing ever! People say it's so ugly and they're at least partially right, but I feel like a mother because I love it so much that I don't think it's ugly. lol I ordered a book and started reading it and I loooooove it!!!
Oh, and I lost some of that weight I gained last week. Yay!
I was expecting a gain and I'm not surprised by the crazy amount, either. DH and I both went all-out this week with food. It started when I worked a 15-hour day on Wednesday due to open house. DH and I went out to Mexican food and our eyes were way bigger than our stomachs. After that there was a baby shower on Saturday where they served Olive Garden lasagna and bread sticks. Soooooo good! Don't forget the cake and ice cream! To top it all off, on Sunday we decided that we've already screwed ourselves over for the week's WI so we decided to have Safeway-ese for lunch/dinner. Safeway-ese, for anyone who doesn't have a Safeway, is the Chinese food you get at the grocery store near the deli section. We had general tsao's chicken and rice. Oh yes, that weight was well earned.
Here's to a week not full of junk food!
P.S. I am completely recovered from being sick. It lasted 2-3 weeks but I'm feeling 200% these days.
I began feeling sick on September 28th and I'm still sick! It's not bronchitis, though. It started that way on a Sunday, but by Wednesday it worked its way into my head and nose. I've been running a low-grade fever for a week and it won't go away. Whatever it is, it's like a flu/cold mix. I went to the doctor on Monday and she told me I could wait a couple days and if it didn't get better I could start taking antibiotics. I started taking them yesterday because I just couldn't wait anymore. I've stayed home from work all week and feel like a big dummy having to lay in bed all day for a week.
On a high note, DH and I both lost 1.6 pounds each this week. Yay! We went to a party or two last week, too. Every week we do at least one social activity involving friends, food and beer. I think we're faring pretty well under the circumstances.
It's PMS week and amazingly I was able to shed 2.4 pounds on Monday. Yay! Guess what? Hubby gained a couple pounds. I'm pretty surprised, but then again he spent all weekend eating chips and pizza. I had a little bit of chips and queso dip, but no pizza.
This week I'm sick. It's something that reminds me of bronchitis, but co-workers are guessing it's a bad cold. The congestion is mostly in my chest and hurts like hell when I cough. Every time I have a good hard cough I feel like I just ran a marathon. It takes all the energy out of me. I've been working and non-drowsy Sudafed is a life-saver right now.
My body is on some crazy roller coaster when compared with DH. We have a chart on the fridge that marks our percentage of weight loss over time and his has been slow and steady. I have been up down up down. What drives me crazy is that we compare what we eat and I eat much more consistently and healthily than he does. I use a good deal less points per week, too. I'm 5'2" and he's 5'9" so we know he's allowed more points per day, but sometimes he goes crazy at work and eats something really bad, then on the weekend we both use a lot of flex points, then on Monday he ends up losing and I gain. Then the next week he will either lose a little or stay the same and I will have a huge loss. Right now our weight loss percentage is almost exactly the same. Who will win? It's anyone's game. I'm rooting for me!
If you haven't guessed, he lost a little bit this week and I gained a couple pounds. We both ate the same amount of food on the weekend and I ate better than he did throughout the week. Oh, and I exercised 180 minutes this week and he only did about 40 minutes. Grrr, men!
